Holiday season brings forth
gifts makeup! HUZZAH
This time around I used my holiday money to buy a lipstick I’ve had my eye on for awhile- YSL Rouge Volupte in ‘Nude Beige’
I’m going to be honest and say that the only reason I desired this lipstick so much is for it’s packaging. I’m a sucker for beautiful packaging, especially when it comes to lipsticks. It’s like if you’re going to be reapplying lipstick in public or in a bathroom, don’t you want the packaging to look good? Oh man my shallow materialistic tendencies are showing again. Hurry talk about something substancial like how you recycle?… alright
Quickie rating: I would give it a B for it’s color and comfort, but it loses points for it’s staying power and price
(look how beautiful with the gold and the pink and the arghhhh!!)
Now for the review!
I haven’t yet worn this lipstick out on the town (because I’m lazy and broke), but I can tell you my first impressions of it.
I’ve heard some negative things about this lipstick, like that it’s too creamy and lasts 5 minutes. (insert inappropriate joke here) However, I can vouch that it does stay longer than 5 minutes. When I apply it, it is a ridiculously creamy lipstick. Like it’s applying butter to your lips. I like to always blot my lipsticks to stain it and then reapply for maximum color staying power. The color ‘nude beige’ is absolutely beautiful and the perfect pinky nude that I’ve been looking for, for my pale complexion. What’s great about it being creamy is that you don’t need to put a lipgloss over it, what’s bad about it being creamy is that it doesn’t hold up against eating and it would potentially smear or clump up. I don’t feel it drying on my lips, but then again I always like to wear vaseline on my lips while I apply my makeup and then I wipe it off right before I apply any lipcolor (more tips and tricks yay!)
Here’s a picture of my lips before and after I drank some tea.
Also I would like to remark about how you can taste the lipstick when you’re eating..it’s kind of gross, but I’m pretty sure that happens with a lot of creamy lipsticks. It really reminds me of this lipstick I got a long long time ago in a drug store that was equally as creamy and actually had a similar scent. The scent isn’t bad, it’s just off putting because it reminds me of that lipstick which I did not like because it was too creamy.
All in all I’m going to keep the lipstick because it’s such a lovely color, however I think it only works because of it’s light color. If I chose a more vibrant color I would be so worried about it smearing all over my face or getting on my teeth (which is what the drugstore lipstick did). Also, I find it more awkward to reapply strong colored lipsticks because your lips look all weird when it’s fading (what a professional observation)
I say if you have the money ($34.00 USD) and you don’t mind reapplying lipsticks in public, I would go for it! However, definitely try it out at the counter or Sephora and wear it around the mall to see how you like it.
P.S. it has SPF 15 (but I am a vampire so I never see the sun)
